IER Home

IER is formerly known as the Southern Education Science Institute (SESI) established by the Ministry of Education & Young and Provisional Revolution Government, Republic of Southern Vietnam on November 14th, 1975. Its origin was combined by the Research and Collection Department, Legal Program Department, Health for School Department and Center for South-East Asian Education Innovation (Innotech).

In 1976, SESI changed its name into the Institute of Education Science (IES) in the South, located at 35 Le Thanh Ton St. and 9 Nguyen Binh Khiem St., Ben Nghe Ward, Dist. 1, HCMC.
On March 21st, 1991, according to the Decision of The Ministry of Education and Training, IES was renamed as the Southern Institute for Educational Research and Training (SIERT) belonging to the Ministry of Education and Training.

In 1997 the Institute became a member of HoChiMinh City National University. Since November 1999, it has belonged to HoChiMinh City University of Pedagogy (HCMC UoP).

On March 01st, 2001, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a directive to establish the Institute for Educational Research (IER) based on the combination of three units: The Southern Institute for Educational Research and Training, the Center for Methodology and Pedagogy Research, and the Center for International Education-Cultural Exchange of HCMC UoP.
